Local Issues
Paddy now aims to produce 2 editions a year of the Sherwood Constituency Review. Click here for the Spring edition of the Sherwood Constituency Review . It is designed to keep local consitutents in touch with what's happening both locally and nationally. The review is delivered to each household in the Constituency and is funded out of Paddy's Parliamentary Allowances.
Local Visits
Paddy likes going out into the community when he gets the opportunity and he attends various local events and meets local organisations and individuals.
He recently visited Crompton View Primary School at Bilsthorpe to find out about "The World's Biggest Lesson". If you visit their website you can find out more about his visit and listen to the children interviewing him for "The Vibe" their web radio station. On the same day he also attended the opening of the new Construction Centre at the Dukeries' Technology College and Complex along with Ed Balls the Secretary of State for Education.
Environmental Action Committee
Paddy is pleased to support the Environmental Action Committee. This group is made up of young people from across Nottinghamshire, who have come from different cultures and backgrounds, with the objective to encourage more people, organisation and businesses to reduce their impact on our environment. See the attached letter for more information about the group.
Local campaigns
"The response to the recent Crime Survey circulated across the Constituency has been overwhelming and clearly local residents feel strongly about this. Thank you very much to all of you who completed the survey. I have read them all and all your comments and suggestions will be collated and analysed. Initial responses are being prepared and posted out."
Paddy is also involved with helping local residents with issues that are causing concern and distress to local residents. These include proposed closure of local post offices; Planning Issues on Garden Road in Hucknall; the proposed wind farm at Eakring; traffic issues at Old Clipstone and the proposed incinerator at Rufford Colliery site.
Following a decision by Newark & Sherwood District Council to move Leisure Centre facilities to Blidworth from Joseph Whitaker School site at Rainworth, Paddy has been working with local people to try to keep the Rainworth swimming pool open. He has met Newark & Sherwood District Council, the Headteacher and Governors of Joseph Whitaker School and also been in touch with Nottinghamshire County Council who provide school swimming services. This is a difficult legal problem and some progress is being made. Paddy is continuing to put pressure on all those involved to maintain swimming provision on the site.
Paddy recently had success with a long running campaign which affected many local constituents:
Paddy Tipping, chair of the All Party Sewers & Sewerage Group said: “I’ve been campaigning for improvements and a resolution to this issue for the fourteen years I’ve been an MP. There have been significant problems in Nottinghamshire and I’m grateful for the help and advice given by Environmental Health Officers at Newark and Sherwood District Council. I ensured that the last Water Act gave powers of adoption so no further legislation is needed. It will be a little while yet before the sewers are transferred, but I anticipate this will happen in 2007. This is good news both for householders and for the environment.” |
If you are a constituent and would like to raise any local issues with Paddy then please complete the form below or email Paddy at paddy@paddytippingmp.com. If enough people raise concerns about specific problems then an action group or campaign or petition can be arranged. He will try to respond to everyone but it might take some time depending on how many issues are raised.
